New Business in Downtown Canton: Print and Press
Alright, go ahead and stop at this early point in the blog and go get your calendar and mark down May 6th as going to the Grand Opening of the most exciting new business in the Arts District, and you know… check out First Friday in general.
Print and Press is the brainchild of two of Canton’s most talented makers and artists: Amy Eibel of Little Chicago Clothing and Jess Bennett of Letter Press Jess. The duo knew each other around town but started collaborating on this idea starting at the monthly Deli Ohio Flea in downtown Canton. Little Chicago Clothing makes beautiful silk screened high quality shirts with an eye for design and a local theme. Letter Press Jess is an artist who designs humorous and beautiful paper cards, calendars and prints which are produced on a 1963 letter press.
The venue combines the two but will bring in consigning brilliant Ohio artists with similar aesthetics but different mediums. Artist Sarah Rosenstock’s hand-carved woodblock prints produced under the name justAjar will be available in the store. Seek Good River a small company that produces comfortable worn ball caps with custom patches will be for sale as well as handmade jewelry from metal smith Lauren Shaw under the name Little Kelm. Print and Press will also stock Natterdoodle calligraphy and watercolor prints as well as the fantastic and exact illustrations of Tim Eakon who will also be running the store’s register most days.
The real beauty of Print and Press is that part of the venue is a store full of beautiful artful prints, clothing and jewelry and the back half of the store is a functioning studio. Any day you may find Amy screening t-shirts or Jess working with her massive print machine. The shop will appeal to anyone who loves craftsmanship and artistry and will be a must visit for every trip into downtown Canton.
Print and Press will be available for custom printing for your designs or requests for business cards, posters, wedding invitations, t-shirts and custom clothing. The store has been open sporadically since November during First Friday and special events, but will be open more regularly after the grand opening on May 6th.
At the time of this posting we would like to note that Jess’s husband Doug claims to help with Print and Press though no one can find solid evidence of any work actually being done : )
