Mandy Altimus Pond’s the Face of Hunger exhibit to open on First Friday
Local award-winning photographer Mandy Altimus Pond will unveil her Face of Hunger, Stark County, Ohio photography series in an exhibit at Deli Ohio on Friday, December 4, 2015 from 6:00-9:00pm. Guests are encouraged to bring canned goods, which will be donated to Refuge of Hope nearby.
This project, funded through a grant from ArtsinStark, examines hunger within Stark County, Ohio. According to the Stark County Hunger Task Force, in 2015 there were 27,000 people served by their organization each month- an astonishing figure. “I don’t believe that our community fathoms the reality of the problem right here in our neighborhoods.” said photographer Mandy Altimus Pond.
Altimus Pond continued, “There are many prejudices and misunderstandings about the homeless and the hungry. Everyone has a story. Come and see the faces of those in our community touched by hunger or homelessness and read the inspiring stories they have to share.” Altimus Pond worked with staff and patrons at Refuge of Hope, Stark County Hunger Task Force, and Hope Outreach Ministries to document the people served, their stories, and what these organizations have done to better their lives.
The exhibit will be hosted at Deli Ohio, 328 Walnut Ave NE, Canton, Ohio. The First Friday opening night guests may also enjoy music by Rust Belt Ramblin’, and get a peak at the Fair & Square Market. The Face of Hunger exhibit will be on display through the end of January 2016.
