Through a collaborative effort of both the public and private sector downtown Canton has begun a journey toward renewal, redevelopment and revitalization.
With the completion of the master plan and Winter & Co. implementation strategy business and community leaders are committed to returning downtown Canton to the thriving city of yesteryear.
Local, unique eateries and specialty shops already exist providing the anchor for more of the types of businesses that make a neighborhood a dynamic place to live. Restaurants, night clubs, coffee houses, shoe stores and a men’s clothing store join the existing establishments including jewelry stores, gift shops, news stands, flower shop, banks, churches—and so much more.
Currently, more than 1,100 people call downtown Canton home. Downtown Canton has a total of 47 market rate housing units planned or under construction. Adaptive reuse of historic buildings is expected to provide the dramatic and unique urban living spaces that appeal to young professionals looking for housing within walking distance of work and empty nesters seeking affordable living close to the services they need.
