Downtown Canton Flea Returns April 16th
By James Dennison
This Saturday, April 16th, the very successful Downtown Canton Flea @ Deli Ohio returns for its second year. The event is free for shoppers and begins at 9am on 4th Street NE next to Deli Ohio. The event currently has over 50 vendors booked for inside and outside of Deli Ohio.
Last year’s downtown flea was a giant success for vendors and local businesses. “We went from a Saturday with maybe 10 sandwich orders to feeding over 300 people. I can’t believe the turn out we had,” said Deli Ohio owner Ryan Miller.
Ryan created the flea collaborating with David and Melissa Sherrill of the popular vintage store Arrowhead Vintage and Handmade Goods which is also located in Downtown on 4th Street NW. “I gave them an idea and they really ran with it, they put in a ton of work and JAB Advertising has helped from the start also. Without these really great people working long hours on a shoestring budget it wouldn’t be nearly as fun and cool.” Ryan said.
Melissa Sherrill from Arrowhead and Jab Advertising have done some major rebranding of the flea during the winter months, changing the name slightly, creating a cool logo and website that allows you to see future events, sign up for vending and answer any questions you have about the flea market.
Ryan has added a mural to the 4th Street side of his downtown Deli Ohio location and has turned his back parking lot into a beautiful pocket park full of edible plants, but Ryan has even more tricks up his sleeve! He’s purchased his own hot dog vending cart and will be slinging gourmet franks outside all day next to Canton’s very favorite coffee truck Native Hill run by husband and wife team Max and Jordane Puterbaugh. Ryan’s new hot dog cart, named The Local Frank, will have several different styles of dogs.
The Downtown Canton Flea hosts a very impressive amount of local makers, 3d printers, beekeepers, soap makers, jewelry makers, vintage clothing booths, beard oilers, writers, poets, henna artists, painters, natural deodorant and lip balm, printmakers, organic farmers, crafters, button makers, t-shirt companies and is looking to double or triple in size during 2016!
