Canton Palace Showing ‘The Past’
As part of the Canton Palace Theatre’s weekly art film, the venue will be screening “The Past,” which was written and directed by Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi.
The film tells the story of an Iranian man who must travel to Paris and finalize a divorce with his estranged wife. However, a shocking revelation by her daughter from a previous marriage complicates the matter.
The 2013 drama was selected as the Iranian entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards, but failed to receive nomination. However, it was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language film. Critics have praised the three leading actors, calling their performances convincing with a “natural liveliness.” In addition, Bérénice Bejo won a Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival, while the film received a Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the same festival.
The film will be shown tonight, April 3, and doors open at 7 pm, with the film to beginning at 7:30.
