Canton First Friday Pizza Wars
MAMMA MIA! September’s First Friday has arrived and the theme is PIZZA WARS! So, come on down to the Canton Arts District from 6-10pm on September 1st and enjoy local businesses competing for the title of Best Pizza. Stop at 4th and Court for your Pizza Passport for a chance to win an Arts District basket worth over $250. Along with local pizza, take advantage 6th Street’s “Pizza for Peace” activities, including pizza vendors set up on opposite ends of 6th Street, live music from Brad Skinner at Colette’s Vintage, free chalk for those wishing to cover the sidewalk in Pizza Art, and a free pizza roll party from Just Imagine Gift Gallery courtesy of Twilight Café.
Take advantage of some great deals going on this Friday: Bring in your receipt from any September First Friday downtown pizza purchase and get 20% off a single item, as well as spin the “Pizza Wheel of Discount” and get a discount on your purchase. Academy of American Karate will also be offering free demonstration on self-defense techniques on the Market Square at 6pm.
First Friday means Free Family Movie at the Canton Palace Theatre! At 7:30pm, grab a seat at the Palace to watch “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”. Admission is free, but a ticket is required. Pick up your tickets ahead of time at the Palace, throughout the Canton Arts District, and at the Canton Museum of Art.
Take a stroll through the galleries and studios to see the latest exhibits: JULZ will be featuring fine art photography by Carolyn R. Jacob. Modern Ritual will be teaming with Eulogy Tattoos to design tattoos from their premade pizza flash along with showcasing solid gold pizza jewelry. You will also be able to make Art Pizzas with Artist BZTAT and Mia Meow on Court Avenue. Stop by Print & Press Shop & Studios for some pizza-themed cards and prints and new fall tees from Little Chicago Clothing Co.
The Canton Arts District will be full of awesome shops and unique finds! Show off your team spirit and decorate a free team fan sign for the next big game and enjoy complimentary admission to the new “Scrimmage” art exhibition. Lynda Tuttle’s Art Center will be honoring Norris “Glenn” Tharp by selling over 500 pieces of artwork on a donation basis. Arrowhead Vintage & Handmade Goods has cooked up some handmade crochet pizza items for you as well as some snazzy pizza buttons and magnets.
All this talk of Pizza making you hungry? There are plenty of places to eat. Macho Nacho Food Truck will be serving street-side nachos, burritos, and chorizo mac-and-cheese. Cultured Coffee & Waffles will be featuring the supreme pizza waffle. Grapes in a Glass will be participating in the pizza wars with a selection of homemade pizzas with live music from Nate Lupi and Brad Harper.
First Friday will be partying hard all night with tons of fun events for everyone! Saxy Rob will be on the mainstage from 7-9pm, Buzzbins will be celebrating their 7th Birthday with local favorite bands including Kristen Ford, When Particles Collide, Steve Trent, Lords of the Highway, Bucko, and Room + Board. Joe Vitale Jr. at Courthouse Plaza. George’s Lounge will be featuring multiple acts through the night including the magic and music of Ed Ellis, and bands such as Turncoat, Kelly Zullo & The Invisible Circus, Killbuck, and Wine and Spirit Band.
