Academy Awards Film Series – Canton Palace Theatre

Posted by on Jan 25, 2016 in News

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! My friends, we are smack dab in the middle of Award Show Season! So, you’ve been invited to an Oscar viewing party complete with a dress code (formal attire, please) and celebrity-inspired cocktails (DiCaprio Mojito?). Party guests will receive ballots upon arrival and whoever predicts the most winners will get to make their own acceptance speech at the end of the party. Challenge accepted. This is the perfect time to print out your own Oscar ballot and head downtown to the Palace Theatre to check out the nominees in a beautiful, historic theatre– complete with red carpet! For eight years, the Canton Palace Theatre has hosted the Academy Awards Film Series. Each weekend from now through the end of February, you can enjoy films nominated for the Academy’s top honors, including Best Actor, Best Actress, and of course, Best Picture. Films show on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30PM and Sundays at 2:00PM (unless a live event is scheduled). Doors open 30 minutes before show time and tickets are $5.00. Movies are selected based on distributor availability. Be sure to check out www.cantonpalacetheatre.org for all of the movie titles and the most current schedule. This weekend (January 28, 29, and 31), the series features “Brooklyn,” Academy Award Nominee for Best Picture, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (Saoirse Ronan), and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published. While the Academy may not have sent you a ticket to the Oscars and no one will be shouting “Who are you wearing?” as you walk through the snow up to your friend’s front door, you can still be a part of Hollywood’s biggest night. Check out the Academy Award Film Series at our downtown gem, the Canton Palace Theatre and fill out your ballot with pride. Oh, and start writing that acceptance...
